The journalist's blog I will be evaluating is Adam Tinworth's. He has been a journalist for the past 25 years and has run a blog for almost two decades. Tinworth also helps with the training of journalists, publishers, and content-centric people all the way from students to senior management level positions. Since the year 2012, he has been an independent consultant in publishing strategy, digital journalism, mobile and social media.
Tinworth is a well-known figure in the journalism industry. He is known as a commentator and analyst on digital journalism and social media. What inspires me the most about him is how he played an important role in bringing bloggers into the news ecosystem. In a way, he sorta changed who can be a journalist and brought blogging into the industry and how they can be an effective way in getting information to people. At one point in his career, he was criticized for taking non-journalistic positions during a dispute with the National Union of Journalists where he debated about the future of journalism careers. He is someone who has realized the importance social media has for journalists and how the industry needs to continue to adapt with changing media times.
As I have been following Tinworth, I don't think he has really made any mistakes in regards to his blogging. He provides a wealth of information on his blog on journalism techniques. Like I said earlier in this post, Tinworth has faced his fair share of criticism though as he has gone against some of the journalism standards. Tinworth has also participated in the debate around "fake news" which has become a prevalent topic in the media industry today.
It is hard to say what Tinworth could improve on in his multimedia work. He is one of the pioneers when it comes to the blogging world and making it a part of the journalism industry. One thing I do think he could be better at and improve his multimedia skills is write more posts about traditional journalism techniques. I know that he has made important contributions in the social media parts of the industry, but I think it would be interesting to hear him talk about more traditional media. He already covers a wide variety of topics in his blog posts from asking the right questions as a journalist to making independent publishing more diverse. I think if someone like Tinworth talked more about traditional journalism, he might have some ideas to improve it and help make traditional journalism and a growing social media world work together better. This could eliminate some of the mistrust that has grown in the public's eyes over the years about what information being put online is true and what is false.
Overall, I think that Tinworth's blog is really cool and really easy to navigate. He does have a good variety of topics that he talks about. He is also constantly updating and adding to his blog so those who view it often will have new content to look at. His blog also has tabs that take you to his courses for journalism and social media training. Tinworth makes it easy to access these things and provides tons of knowledge through his experiences over the past 25 years of being in the industry. On his blog he also provides resources to those who want to grow in multimedia journalism. It's a very good blog and I recommend anyone who is interested in the social media or online content portion of the journalism industry to take a look at Tinworth's blog.
