January 2014 Gulf Coast winter storm (Blog Update #9)

This was a winter storm that impacted the eastern and southeastern portions of the United States. The gulf region is severely impacted with accumulated snow. The storm came as much of the United States was under frigid and cold temperatures.
Travel was impacted heavily in the states of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi as people were caught off guard by the hazardous conditions. Freezing rain, snow, and sleet impacted drivers and some were stranded on highways for hours

Cities in Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia saw upwards of 3 inches of snow with this storm which is unheard of in these areas. Tragically, 2 people lost their lives due to the storm. It also left 180 people injured.
